The Teen Summer Program in Tarragona has been designed specifically for teen aged students looking to learn Spanish as a foreign language, while enjoying a beautiful coastal city. Students can expect quality teaching, as all of the teachers have been trained in dealing with teenagers, are native Spanish speakers, and have demonstrated an ability to effectively communicate with students in the class.

Students attending the program will study Spanish 15 hours per week from 10.00 to 13.30(1:30PM) in a small group environment. Each class has a maximum of 12 students. In the afternoons and evenings students participate in a full social program. The main objective of the program is to improve students communicative skills.

The course is designed to ensure that students enjoy their Spanish classes as much as they enjoy the rest of the course program. Classroom activities are therefore varied and where possible involve tasks or games that make the learning process interesting and fun.

The aim of the course is to develop the students' language skills in all areas, but there is an added emphasis on developing communicative skills. To facilitate this goal students participate in a lot of practical activities that involve a great deal of interaction. Students from around the world attend teh program making it easier to ensure that only Spanish is used in the classroom and during activities.

To better enable the students to get the most out of their visits to places of interest in and around Tarragona; part of the class time is devoted to project work focused on the social activities.

Lunch is normally eaten at about 14.00(2:00PM), and dinner at about 20.30-21.00(8:30-9:00PM).

Some of the host families live within walking distance of the school. However, in many cases it will be necessary for the students to take a bus from their family to the school. A 30-day student bus pass, which allows four journeys per day, is included in the course fee.

Students must comply with a curfew of 23.30(11:30PM) from Sunday to Thursday, and 01:30 on Friday and Saturday.

Tarragona, Spain - City Info

The Junior Summer Program takes place in Tarragona, a pleasant coastal resort city approximately 100 km south of Barcelona (86 km from the airport). Tarragona is a provincial capital and has a population of around 115,000. It is situated on the Costa Dorada and is an ideal location for a teen program of this kind.

The town is lively, but not too big. It has its own sandy beaches within walking distance of the school, it is very close to Port Aventura, one of Europe's largest theme parks and it is only an hour from Barcelona by bus or train.

The cuisine of Tarragona has a distinctive flavor, and primarily consists of seafood dishes blended with local agricultural products, such as  olive oil, hazelnuts, almonds, sweet peppers, onions, garlic, tomatoes, etc. Restaurants are plentiful in the city center, the fishing district of El Serrallo, and along the nearby seafronts.
